New Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy Game Releases On 10th February

RE-ENTER THE WIZARDING WORLD TO STUDY AT HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY!

Hogwarts Legacy New Game

The Harry Potter franchise is no stranger to computer and console game adaptions. We fondly remember booting up the first offering on Playstation One, an official movie-tie-in game for Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, which felt like the height of gaming potential at the time. Pixelated Hagrid, hilariously dangerous lessons and creepy corridors, anyone?

Following this, the other films all received their own adaptation, culminating with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. After this, the tradition of Harry Potter game realism appeared to hang up its sorting hat, passing the wand onto the wildly successful LEGO Harry Potter game series, whose games were focused more on cartoon fun than graphical realism.

Several other offshoot games – such as Quidditch World Cup – appeared over the years, though the idea of a genuinely open-world, accurately detailed game recreation of the famous school has long remained a dream in the minds of muggles, witches and wizard gamers… until now.

New Open-World Hogwarts Game

This year, gamers will finally have a chance to re-enter Hogwarts Castle and the magical world of Harry Potter, complete with next-gen graphics and modern gaming capabilities. As the official trailer indicates, players can explore all the iconic locations in the ancient castle, including periphery areas such as the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade.

The official gameplay trailer shows some truly lavish, colourful, and atmospheric visuals. This is the gaming recreation of Hogwarts we’ve been waiting for, complete with dark corridors, bright exteriors, and intricate details. You can see candles floating in the main hall, ghosts flittering through walls, and students practising their spells between classes, complete with changing seasonal weather descending on the castle.

You can check out over an hour of YouTube gameplay footage. The locations visited look truly cinematic, accurately referencing the style of the films but also expanding to include missed elements from the books.

What is the New Hogwarts Legacy Game About?

Developer Avalanche Software describes the new game as an “immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books.”

Players can fully customise their character, choosing their appearance and gender. Set in the 1890s, the game follows a new student joining the school in the fifth year. As they are starting later than other young witches and wizards, they must work hard to fit in, unlock new spells, gain potions and learn about the ancient school. As an intriguing twist, the player has been admitted to the school because they hold a mysterious object threatening the wizarding world, able to conjure forgotten magic previously thought lost to the world.

One of the most exciting elements beyond the story is the ability to pick which house you want to join: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Recent gameplay videos have revealed the interiors of each common room, secretly accessible by house students. For Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, this will be the first time we have seen such locations recreated in visual media.

Did we also mention you can fly a broomstick…?

When is the new Harry Potter Game Released?

Hogwarts Legacy will be available from February 10th on PS5, Windows and Xbox X/S.

PS4 and Xbox One users can also grab a copy for their platforms from April 4th, with the game coming to Nintendo Switch on July 25th.

Will There Be Any Hogwarts Legacy LEGO Sets?

The period of history in which the new game is set obviously opens up interesting possibilities for future LEGO sets, which have previously remained focused on the main Harry Potter storyline covered in the films and books.

Time will tell whether LEGO will choose to release new models based on the game, but fans will undoubtedly speculate once the game is released and we’re given a chance to explore all the new magical locations.

In the meantime, don’t forget to check out our range of 3mm clear acrylic display cases, all offering the best way to display LEGO Harry Potter sets, including bespoke printed backgrounds and timber bases on select products.
