"The joy is seeing it come together piece by piece."
Pharrell Williams

It's been 10 years since Emmet first bounced across our screens trying to save the LEGO universe from Lord Business in The LEGO Movie. 2017 saw The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie being released. Then five years on from the first LEGO movie, in 2019, Emmet was back, this time trying to fend off the evil Duplo invaders from outer space.
There has since been a brick-built wall of silence regarding LEGO movies until Focus Features and Pharrell Williams announced the release of "Piece By Piece" in cinemas on October 11th 2024 in the United States. Hopefully, the worldwide release won't be far behind.

"Piece By Piece" is a biographical, musical, comedy-drama that documents the life and career of musician Pharrell Williams. Academy Award Winner Morgan Neville is the director and co-producer of this animated biopic; this will be his animated feature debut. This will be the first LEGO movie to be produced under Universal Pictures since they acquired the rights in April 2020, with their contract expiring in 2025.

Pharrell Williams has been ruminating about producing a movie about his life for over a decade. He started to seriously consider this idea in 2019 after a conversation with Morgan Neville. Pharrell, being Pharrell, didn't want to do just a regular documentary movie, and he felt that LEGO would be the best way to tell a good, inspirational, aspirational story of his life. Later that year, development began as the LEGO rights were transferred from Warner Bros to Universal Pictures. As this was now during the pandemic, interviews with Pharrell's associates had to be carried out remotely, and the live-action scenes were filmed later.

For the movie, The LEGO Group created new LEGO Minifigure pieces that better represent the style of African-American culture. They also created new musical equipment pieces, boomboxes and turntables. Pharrell composed two brand new songs specifically for "Piece By Piece", both of which he created with two specific scenes in mind.
There is quite the star-studded cast; Neville said that when William's friends and collaborators were approached about the movie, no one remotely hesitated with their replies! Daft Punk, N.O.R.E, Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland are all featured in the movie and are all playing themselves. William's wife, Helen Lasichanh, is also down to make an appearance.
if you haven't seen the trailer for this upcoming movie, check it out at the official LEGO website.
We really hope they make some LEGO sets to accompany this cinematic release. Everyone needs a LEGO Snoop Dogg in their display!
