First LEGO Shrek Sets Celebrate 25 Years of the All-Star Ogre

Hey now, you're a brick star, get your game on, get made!

Believe it or not, it's a quarter-century since Shrek hit cinemas back in 2001. The tale of a lovable antisocial ogre changed kids' films forever and sparked a franchise with six movies (and two more in production).

Fans can look forward to Shrek 5 in 2027 and a Donkey spin-off in 2028. But to celebrate the 25th anniversary in 2026, we have the first LEGO Shrek sets hitting the stands.

Unusually, these anniversary sets include a character who wasn't in the first film, Antonio Banderas' Puss in Boots. As a fan favourite with two movies and his own TV show, Puss has earned his place, even if his debut wasn't until 2004.

Let's take a look at LEGO Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots (72423) and LEGO BrickHeadz Shrek, Donkey & Gingy Figures (40923), the two new Shrek LEGO sets that celebrate 25 years of the grumpy green ogre.

First up is a posable LEGO display set with brick-built Shrek and Donkey figures, plus a LEGO Minifigure Puss in Boots. It's aimed at over-18s, but there are so many movie references and other details that younger builders will love.

Among them is the 'Beware Ogre' sign that marks the entrance to Shrek's swamp, a simple swamp base, an onion, sunflowers and a blue flower with red thorns.

Pop open Shrek's stomach to reveal a selection of tiny 'easter eggs' that each refer to a moment in the movies. It's a cute hidden feature that again, younger builders in particular will love exploring.

When you want to display LEGO Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots (72423) you can turn Shrek's head, adjust his arms, hands and fingers, open Donkey's mouth, rotate his head, and swivel his ears and tail.

The scale on this set is surprisingly accurate. By making a LEGO Minifigure Puss in Boots, the designers needed Donkey to be about 12cm tall and Shrek to be about 21cm. With the added swamp base (and Donkey's front legs perched on a rock) they're all pretty much spot-on. Great attention to detail!

If you're building a LEGO BrickHeadz display and you want to add your favourite Shrek characters to your line-up, then you'll need LEGO BrickHeadz Shrek, Donkey & Gingy Figures (40923).

This is a three-character set and it takes a few liberties in terms of scale, as Shrek stands 8cm tall, Donkey 7cm tall, and even Gingy is a mighty 5cm tall! All three figures include printed bricks, again including a 'Beware Ogre' sign held by Shrek himself.

With just under 260 pieces, it's a family-friendly build for ages 10 and above. You could even split the set into three and build one figure each before adding them to your LEGO BrickHeadz display.
