Happy New Year! Our Favourite LEGO Sets of 2025

Before we all get stuck into the new year, let's take the chance (and the excuse!) to look back on some of our favourite LEGO sets of 2025.

It was a year of big-name franchises, nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s, and some truly showstopping LEGO display models that will be collectors' items for years to come.

We asked the iDisplayit team to choose THEIR favourite LEGO sets of 2025 - do you agree with our picks below?

LEGO Icons Star Trek: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D (10356)

Chosen by our Director.

In the year when a new 9,000-piece LEGO Star Wars Death Star display set launched, Trekkies won the race to be our Director's Pick of the Year 2025. When asked, they said "Isn't it obvious?" and... well, yes it was.

For years now, every time LEGO has teased a major new franchise deal, our Director has been hoping for official licensed Star Trek LEGO sets. And as a Star Trek: The Next Generation fan, it was a huge bonus that the Enterprise D was the first Federation flagship to be immortalised in bricks.

LEGO Icons Star Trek: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D (10356) bucks a long-lived trend, where most Star Trek licence deals start with The Original Series. Our in-house Trekkie praised the overall look of the finished build, which captures the iconic ship's complex design and most important defining features surprisingly well.

The 3,600-piece build measures in at 60 x 48 x 27cm (L x W x H), which feels about right for such a landmark project. It's great that you also get the main crew members in LEGO Minifigure form, along with the extra Minifigure of Ensign Ro that came with the limited-edition LEGO Star Trek Type-15 Shuttlepod (40768) Gift With Purchase.

LEGO Disney WALL-E and EVE (43279)

Chosen by our Marketing Manager.

iDisplayit's Marketing Manager is a big Disney fan and a huge WALL-E fan, but missed out on 2015's 676-piece LEGO Ideas WALL-E (21303), which is now retired. So when LEGO Disney WALL-E and EVE (43279) released in 2025, it was a second chance to add not one iconic character, but four to their LEGO bookshelf display.

As well as the title duo of WALL-E and EVE, this 811-piece set includes M-O and Hal, along with a movie-accurate plant in a boot. LEGO describes it as "an impressive buildable display model" and we'd have to agree.

It's great to see the characters together all at the same scale - especially WALL-E and EVE - and the various moving parts and posable heads and arms are a nice touch too. We wish they were a bit bigger than 13cm (5 inches) tall, but at least they're just right for a LEGO bookcase display.

LEGO Super Mario Mario Kart - Mario & Standard Kart (72037)

It's always a good sign when one of our team members has a set in their own personal LEGO collection at home, and that's true of LEGO Super Mario Mario Kart - Mario & Standard Kart (72037) and iDisplayit's Operations Manager.

They love gaming, and video game characters don't get much more iconic than Mario. This colourful 1,972-piece set does an amazing job of recreating the moustachioed plumber at the wheel of his Standard Kart.

LEGO Icons Tropical Aquarium (10366)

There's a ton of detail in LEGO Icons Tropical Aquarium (10366) along with the full rainbow of different colours, so it's no surprise that it was first pick for iDisplayit's photographer.

It's a lengthy build with well over 4,000 pieces, and makes creative use of some existing LEGO parts to form a self-contained ecosystem of oxygenating plants, vibrant tropical fish and other aquatic creatures.

Hidden knobs and dials allow various parts of the set to move, bringing your aquarium to life. We also appreciate the brick-built sandy base and aqua-blue back wall, which help the LEGO Tropical Aquarium to look even more fabulous inside our Acrylic Display Case for LEGO 10366.

LEGO Ideas Gremlins: Gizmo (21361)

Chosen by our Production Manager.

Poor Gizmo - the peace-loving Mogwai destined to spawn an army of mischievous siblings who want nothing more than to snack after midnight and create havoc. 1984's Gremlins redefined the term 'Parental Guidance' in the US (and was a 15 certificate in the UK!), but 80s and 90s kids still remember it fondly, and iDisplayit's Production Manager is among them.

"It's one of my favourite movies and characters from the 80s - also the film came out the year I was born. With the LEGO build, it's cool that you can choose to have Gizmo standing or sitting. The only issue is if you want to change his pose from standing to sitting, you have to deconstruct the model a lot and rebuild - it's not an easy change."

We wanted to see Gizmo in his adopted home, so our Gremlins Gizmo Display Case for LEGO 21361 has an optional printed background inspired by Billy's attic from the movie, with crystal-clear acrylic so you can see every detail on Gizmo's adorable face.

LEGO Icons Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook (10351)

Chosen by our Office Executive.

Our office exec loves a classic, so they picked LEGO Icons Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook (10351) for our list of favourite LEGO sets of 2025. This versatile set can close up and take its place among the detective fiction books on your shelf, or open out to become a LEGO bookshelf display at 37 x 21 x 6cm (W x H x D).

Book nooks have been a growing trend in recent years, so it's only right that this makes our shortlist of favourite 2025 LEGO sets. It's also nice that you get five LEGO Minifigures (Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson, Professor Moriarty, Irene Adler and Paige) so you can actually play with the set and recreate scenes from the books.

We love the street scene the Sherlock Holmes LEGO Book Nook creates when opened out, and our exec just wished it was bigger with more of Victorian London featured - perhaps something that could be added with future sets based on other stories from that era?

LEGO Super Mario Game Boy (72046)

Chosen by our Staff Family.

This set is officially part of the LEGO Super Mario theme, thanks to the optional Super Mario Land Game Pak and lenticular screen. But there's also a Nintendo start screen or - our Staff Family's preferred option - The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Game Pak and in-game graphics.

We've still got our original Nintendo Game Boy from the 1990s, so LEGO Super Mario Game Boy (72046) brings back happy childhood memories of playing Zelda in restaurants, airports, long car journeys, and anywhere else when there was nothing to do for five minutes.

The accuracy of the LEGO Game Boy is astounding. It's almost millimetre-perfect at 14 x 9 x 3cm (H x W x D) compared with the original Nintendo Game Boy's 148 x 90 x 32mm. From a distance, you can barely tell the difference.
