LEGO Round-Up - Batman vs Joker & Women's Football Icons

It's been a busy month for new LEGO releases, with enough new sets in June alone to fill any enthusiast's collection. Following leaks from Australian and Japanese certified LEGO stores, LEGO have now officially confirmed two new sets being added to the pile this summer - Icons of Play 40643 and Batman vs The Joker Chase 76224.

LEGO appear to be keen on producing LEGO sets based on director Tim Burton's cinematic interpretation of Batman this year, following the inclusion of Michael Keaton's caped crusader in the new Flash movie. If you didn't catch it, we discussed the upcoming Michael Keaton-era Batcave Shadow Box 76252 at length in our Batman Returns blog.

This smaller set offers collectors a chance to grab the classic 90s version of the Batmobile at a lower price, including a unique minifigure of Jack Nicholson's Joker alongside Batman sporting a new-for-2023 cowl and white eyes.

The successful Dark Knight Trilogy was not always to everyone's taste, with some fans missing the classic, sleek, modified concept car style of the past compared to the practical, armoured tumbler version last seen in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises. This new DC-inspired Batmobile 76224 set allows fans to add an older version of the crime-fighting car to their collections.

Michael Keaton's batmobile was originally modified from a 1970 Corvette body set on a Chevrolet Impala chassis with a Chevy V8 engine. The jet turbine engines are recreated in brick form with distinctive fire effect elements, and the vehicle includes the iconic wings and aerodynamic bodywork as seen on the movie version of the car.

The FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand will kick off on 20^th July 2023, promising to be the biggest tournament yet, with an expanded roster of 32 teams. It will also be the first competition in either the men's or women's game to be held across multiple confederations. Hopes for the England women's national football team are high following their sensational lifting of the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 trophy.

To celebrate the competition and the increasing popularity of the women's game, LEGO are releasing a new themed set conspiring of an impressive 15 minifigures featuring some of the top names in women's football. As per the box art, these include striker Sam Kerr, Ballon d'Or Féminin winner Megan Rapinoe, FC Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala, and superstar Yui Nagasato.
