What is Sagrada Familia?

Sagrada Familia is a huge church in Barcelona that has been under construction for over 100 years. Work began in 1882 under the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, but just one year later, the role of chief architect was taken over by Antoni Gaudi and has continued in line with his vision ever since.

Is Sagrada Familia a cathedral?

No. Although people often call it a cathedral, it is more correct to call Sagrada Familia a church or temple. The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia is the actual seat of the Archdiocese of Barcelona, which is why Sagrada Familia cannot also be called a Barcelona cathedral.

Why is 2026 an important year?

This year marks the centenary of Gaudi's death. When the architect died in 1926, barely one quarter of the Sagrada Familia had been completed. It was hoped that the temple would be finished in 2026, but construction was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it's almost done now - and the tallest tower, the 172.5m Tower of Jesus Christ, was inaugurated in June 2026 by Pope Leo XIV.

Is LEGO Sagrada Familia the biggest set ever?

Yes - with 12,060 pieces in total, LEGO Architecture Sagrada Familia (21065) has more pieces than any single commercially available LEGO set in history. The previous record-holder was the retired LEGO Art World Map (31203) which had 11,695 pieces.

How big is LEGO Sagrada Familia in cm?

LEGO Sagrada Familia measures 62 x 47 x 39cm (H x W x D), or 24 x 18.5 x 15 inches. It's not the tallest LEGO set ever - that's the LEGO Icons Eiffel Tower (10307) at 149cm tall and a piece count of 10,001.

What are the features of LEGO Sagrada Familia (21065)?

This spectacular LEGO Architecture set recreates the iconic features of the church, including the six main towers and smaller surrounding spires of the basilica. There's a gorgeous stained glass effect on the windows, and a name plate on the base - a perfect finishing touch to put this impressive piece on display.

What's the LEGO Sagrada Familia build process?

LEGO's designers took inspiration from the real-life construction, so the build process for LEGO 21065 follows a similar order:

  1. Apse and Crypt
  2. Nativity Facade
  3. Passion Facade
  4. Naves and Western Sacristy
  5. Six Central Towers
  6. Basilica with Eastern Sacristy
  7. Glory Facade

It's a really nice touch to follow the real-world building process, and it means you can get an idea of what the temple looked like at different stages throughout the 20th century.

You can pre-order LEGO Sagrada Familia now, for a dispatch date of November 1st 2026. Ordering early is a good way to secure a set on the release date, as there's a good chance this will sell out due to its record-breaking piece count.
