Today, we are looking at another form of LEGO lighting kit: a Lightailing kit for the LEGO 76271 Batman Animated Series.
The Lightailing kits are all on one wire that branches out into several other strands. The lights are integrated into modified LEGO pieces, which replace the pieces that come with the LEGO set.

The packaging is simple and to the point. The box is black with the Lightailing logo in the top left-hand corner, and there is a picture of the relevant LEGO set on the right-hand side of the box lid. Once the box is opened, we find a plastic box that contains the light kit, instruction booklet, service card, and troubleshooting booklet. The box's yellow and black colour scheme continues on the literature inside.

The Lightailing kit for LEGO 76271 Batman Animated Series consists of 188 steps. The first steps are focused on the bottom right-hand corner, between The Stacked Deck and the Galaxy Broadcasting tower. The Stacked Deck is the first establishment to receive any illumination, and the wire then runs up the side of the Galaxy Broadcasting Tower to add light to the window here. Once these two lights have been attached, the wire then feeds upwards toward the Police blimps. The second layer of red pieces helps to keep the wires concealed from view.

Once the first two Police blimps have been illuminated, the wires are cleverly woven through the tightly clustered Gotham Cityscape to add the warm glow of a busy city to the many windows and porches.
Once all the buildings have been lit, strip lights that run around the edge of the frame need to be attached.

Overall, this Lightailing kit was relatively easy to apply to LEGO 76271 Batman Animated Series. However, we made a couple of alterations to wire placement so that it was concealed a bit more, but this didn't stray too far from the instructions. The instructions were a little hard to follow as the photographs don't always make it abundantly clear where you are meant to be positioning the wire.
The result is excellent. The light kit brings this LEGO set to the next level, turning it into a masterpiece. We think it's a shame that the Bat symbol isn't illuminated, but that's our only complaint - and it's not a complaint, just an observation.
Lightailing kits are ideal for people who want to light up their LEGO but have not dabbled in any miniature wiring project previously. They are also great value for money.
Lightailing provides a good range of lighting kits for other LEGO Batman sets, check out some of them here:
