We Got Our Paws On Bearbrick Series 47- Take A Look At Them Here

Who would've thought that the humble little Ursine free gift at the World Character Convention 12 in Tokyo in 2001 would become a worldwide phenomenon? 23 years later, these bears are popular with the rich and famous as well as us regular nerds. Bearbrick is now a seminal part of pop culture across the globe.

They are available in several sizes, the most common being 100% (2.75"), 400% (6"), and 1000% (11"). Some of the larger ones are highly sought after due to extremely limited production. That said, all sizes become rare to different degrees as reissues are never made.

Today, we are looking at the 100% blind boxes, of which Medicom Bearbrick is now up to series 47. There are two drops a year, the Summer edition and the Winter edition. Each series will contain bears from four designs: Basic, Standard, Artist, and Secret.

Basic bears are plain, one-colour bears with a letter from the name "Bearbrick" emblazoned on their torso. There are nine to collect in each series.

Standard bears are divided into different themes: Flag, Pattern, Jellybean, Horror, Sy-Fy, Cute, Animal and Hero.

Artist bears have prints of famous paintings covering them. Some examples are Jackson Pollock, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring.

The Secret bears are exactly that - secret. You don't know until you unbox one or read about it on the internet! The chance of getting one of these bears is rated as 0.52%, which is the highest level of rarity in these series. Hence, they can change hands for a fair bit of money amongst avid collectors.

WHAT CAME WITH OUR SERIES 47 BEARBRICK BOX

• Jellybean Theme (rarity 8.33%) - Printed with a selection of pastel colours resembling ice cream scoops.
• Pattern Theme (rarity 5.2%) - Designed by Edokko, a translucent blue colour with snowflakes.

• Flag Theme (rarity 4.16%) - The flag for series 47 is Austria, with the figure coloured in red and white horizontal lines.
• Hero Theme (rarity 7.29%) - In the Hero bracket we ended up with the awesome DC Batman and Flash. Both have a very good likeness to the actual characters.

• Animal Theme (rarity 7.29%) - Psycho Bear (Japan Hide) bear, which we have to agree is really cute. We unboxed the standard Dayglo pink version and also a bright yellow secret version.
• Cute Theme (rarity 7.29%) - Possibly our least favourite from this series is the Movie-themed Willy Wonka from the 2023 movie (honestly it's terrifying!)

• Horror Theme (rarity 4.16%) - Speaking of terrifying, we move onto the Horror theme and for series 47 it is M3gan from the 2022 horror film of the same name.
• SF Theme (rarity 7.29%) - Designed as Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
• Hero Theme (rarity 7.29%) - Hokuto No Ken from "Fist of the North Star" (the TV series ran from 1984 to 1988) and then there is a variant version as well, Raoh.

• Artist (rarity 2.08%) - We were pleased that we managed to get a few different designs from this theme. In our blind boxes, we had figures from Jackson Pollock and Land (Japanese Creative House), alongside the chrome Footpatrol (UK Sneaker Store) Bearbrick.

• We had a hidden gem from the artist theme with a secret figure from the Met: Auguste Renoir - "A Young Girl with Daisies". The intricate detailing and all-over design of this renowned artwork blend beautifully on the Bearbrick as a canvas.
