What's New in Mattel Brick Shop x Hot Wheels?

Brick-building enthusiasts got an unexpected boost in 2025 with the launch of Mattel Brick Shop x Hot Wheels, a line of buildable scale models and exclusive matching die-cast cars.

Unveiled at the start of the year, the Mattel Brick Shop x Hot Wheels line-up has grown over the months since. In this guide, we'll take a look at some of the sets now available and the difference between the Premium, Elite, and Speed Series sets.

It's great to see compatible brick studs on some of the elements in these sets. They would look fantastic alongside LEGO F1 cars as part of a motorsport-inspired display. All you need now is a custom display case for Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels sets - and to that we say, watch this space...

What is Mattel Brick Shop x Hot Wheels?

Mattel announced Mattel Brick Shop on January 28th 2025 at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair, calling it "an exciting new chapter".

Roberto Stanichi, executive vice-president of Mattel and global head of vehicles and building sets, added: "Our commitment is to deliver building sets that surpass builders' expectations, with elevated designs and authentic details."

The sets feature some very familiar plastic bricks that Mattel say are "compatible with other brands". If you spent your childhood building LEGO towers to hold up your Hot Wheels track, you might find Mattel Brick Shop's sets even more nostalgic.

Speed, Elite and Premium Series - What's The Difference?

On May 1st 2025, the first seven Mattel Brick Shop x Hot Wheels sets were unveiled, each featuring a brick-built car with integrated metal parts and a matching die-cast 1:64 Hot Wheels car exclusive to the set.

Mattel Brick Shop x Hot Wheels sets come in three series, each of which represents a different scale factor from the full-size real-life vehicle:

• Hot Wheels Premium Series - 1:12 scale models
• Hot Wheels Elite Series - 1:16 scale models
• Hot Wheels Speed Series - 1:32 scale models

Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Audi R8 LMS

Scale: 1:16 (Elite Series)

One of the most recent additions to the collection is Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Audi R8 LMS, a 1:16 scale Elite Series set with a $54.00 RRP. The yellow-liveried dragster has opening doors, an authentic steering wheel, custom decals and alternative wheel covers to personalise the finished build.

Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Audi Avant RS2

Scale: 1:32 (Speed Series)

Based on the 1994 Audi Avant RS2, this will be a fan favourite for builders of a certain age. Its bright blue bodywork and distinctive front end are festooned in Audi Sport and Quattro logos. The doors open and there's a true-to-life double exhaust. The Speed Series might be the smallest, but it's great value if you're looking for a build you can complete in a single sitting.

Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Mercedes-Benz 300 SL

Age: 17+

Pieces: 1,600

Scale: 1:12 (Premium Series)

This set was the first in the Premium Series, the biggest of the three scales at 1/12th of lifesize. As you'd expect, there are more pieces - roughly double the Elite Series - and these include a spare tyre and luggage. It's fair to say that the Premium Series sets are the stars of the show and deserve to be out on display. Or as Mattel put it, "The peak of car luxury, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL will shine in your showroom.".
