We love the new festive LEGO sets that drop in the run-up to Christmas each year. Whether it's the giant Up-Scaled Santa Minifigure (40820), the Festive Gingerbread House (40809) or the out-of-this-galaxy LEGO Star Wars Gingerbread AT-AT Walker (40806), there's something for everyone in the LEGO Christmas 2025 Collection.
One always-popular LEGO Christmas set is the annual addition to the LEGO Winter Village Collection, which has been a fixture of the brick brand's calendar since 2009. This year is the 17th instalment - at this point it's starting to look more like a town than a village!

Like many of the LEGO collectible lines, Winter Village sets are retired after a few years. As of right now, you can still buy the 2023, 2024 and 2025 sets, but 2023's Alpine Lodge and last year's Santa's Post Office are both due for retirement in the coming months.
So, let's take a look at the new LEGO Winter Village Holiday Express Train (10361) along with the previous LEGO Winter Village sets still available - it's never too late to start collecting!

The circular track on LEGO Winter Village Holiday Express Train (10361) can be used as a Christmas tree skirt - you can even power the train using a LEGO Powered Up kit (not included with this set). Alternatively, place your completed train on a straight section of track for a festive mantelpiece or bookshelf display.

There are fun details, both big and small in this build. We love the gigantic bell-ringing polar bear with his colourful scarf, as he towers almost as tall as the steam train's funnel! On the tiny end of the scale, this set has a first for LEGO - a 3D printed steam train toy, the first time LEGO has included a 3D printed element in a mass-market set.

Although this year's addition is not a building, we'd argue that LEGO Holiday Express Train (10361) is an even more versatile creation. It can look fantastic on straight track for a bookshelf or mantel display, circling around the foot of your Christmas tree, or winding through your LEGO Winter Village - it's entirely up to you!

Last year's set is already due for retirement, and there are some good reasons to get your hands on 2024's LEGO Winter Village Santa's Post Office (10339) while you still can. It's a very pretty set, with the elves' mail delivery balloon ready to take off from the roof of the Post Office and 15-20 envelope elements scattered around the sorting office.

This is only the third LEGO Winter Village set to feature Santa in person, as you get the big man himself in LEGO Minifigure form, along with four mail-sorting elves to help him with his deliveries.

A very overlooked feature of this set is the hidden button on top of the hot air balloon - press this and a LEGO light brick illuminates the balloon's gas burner, ready for take-off! It's a cute interactive element that just adds to the charm of this adorable build.

The most 'real-world' set still available is 2023's LEGO Winter Village Alpine Lodge (10325), a traditional log-built ski chalet with reception desk, guest rooms and several standalone mini scenes to build and display.

If you like to keep track of LEGO sets with toilets in, there's one here - in fact there's an entire snow-capped 'toilet cabin' outhouse! There's also a Christmas tree, which is one iconic element that appeared in every LEGO Winter Village set from 2009 to 2024.

A LEGO light brick is included in this set too, to make the cosy fireplace glow while the LEGO Minifigure friends enjoy their hot chocolate in nearby chairs. It's another really cute build that captures that festive feeling of enjoying the snow and then escaping the cold with your best buddies. But it's retiring soon, so don't miss your last chance to buy Alpine Lodge!
This is the 17th year of LEGO Winter Village, and most of the previous sets have long since retired from general sale. The early years saw more real-world winter-themed buildings, whereas the past six to seven releases have moved more into Christmassy themes like Santa, elves and gingerbread.
Here's the full list of LEGO Winter Village retired sets (2009-2022, with 2023-24 soon to join them)...

iDisplayit has custom LEGO Winter Village display cases available for some of the more recent sets, including:
It's fun to see the different styles of builds over the years, whether it's realistic Alpine lodges, fantasy Lapland landmarks, or something totally different like the holiday train sets.

Like each year's LEGO Advent Calendars, it's a challenge to keep coming up with fresh ideas, so the LEGO Winter Village line-up is an impressive achievement!
