NEW LEGO Pokémon 2026 sets - What you need to know

The new wave of LEGO Pokémon sets has landed, so here's what you need to know about the three new LEGO Pokémon 2026 sets, the ridiculously cute Ditto as Squirtle GWP, and a look ahead to the next drop coming in October.

LEGO Pokémon August 2026 sets

The August wave includes three new LEGO Pokémon sets:

• LEGO Pokémon Munchlax (72150)
• LEGO Pokémon Arcanine (72160)
• LEGO Pokémon Rayquaza (72168)

Until August 10th, there's also a LEGO Pokémon GWP when you spend over $130 on LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets:

LEGO Pokémon Munchlax (72150)

Munchlax was the first Generation IV Pokémon to be unveiled, back in May 2004, and ranked a respectable 29th for the Sinnoh region in the massive Pokémon of the Year 2020 vote.

Now it's an adorable LEGO Pokémon display set and the first of three new releases for August 2026.

Sitting over 18cm tall on its tree stump, LEGO Munchlax is surrounded by discarded apple cores, along with a full apple ready to eat. Its arms, legs and head can be posed, adding customisation to the character.

There's not a lot of interactivity here - it's very much a LEGO bookshelf display once completed - but the aesthetic is spot-on and I'm a big fan of LEGO Munchlax's startled facial expression.

LEGO Pokémon Arcanine (72160)

Size: Over 17cm tall

Arcanine is a Gen I Pokémon and finished an impressive 9th in the 2020 vote, beating icons like Snorlax, Squirtle, Charmander and Psyduck.

LEGO Pokémon Arcanine (72160) is built to a similar scale as LEGO Munchlax, but is much more detailed with over 50% more pieces. LEGO promise "endless dynamic display poses" from this set, which has movable head, mouth, legs, feet and tail.

I particularly love the 'fur' on this set - the head, bib and tail all look genuinely bushy, which is no mean feat when building with solid LEGO pieces.

This is the mid-priced option of the three new LEGO Pokémon August 2026 sets, and with its level of detail and furry aesthetic, it offers amazing value for money.

LEGO Pokémon Rayquaza (72168)

Size: Over 38cm tall

Rayquaza topped the 2020 vote for the Hoenn region (Gen III) with over 60,000 votes, so it's not too surprising to see it appear among the August 2026 LEGO Pokémon sets.

It is surprising to see who else is included in this set though - LEGO Minifigure Zinnia, a Draconid Trainer complete with a Mega Stone. As the first official LEGO Pokémon Minifigure, Zinnia (first seen in the Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire remakes) is not the character I was expecting to see!

Fans will have to wait until October for the next drop - and some more LEGO Pokémon Minifigures to add to your collection (more on that in a moment...)

I like how LEGO Rayquaza can be displayed on top of the cloud-wrapped Sky Pillar base, or detached to stand alone. The base also has room for Minifigure Zinnia, making a really eye-catching LEGO Pokémon display overall.

LEGO Pokémon SMART Play and GWP

Moving on to the August 2026 LEGO Pokémon GWP and it's important to note that you have to spend over $130 specifically on LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets to unlock this one.

OK, first of all, LEGO Pokémon Ditto as Squirtle GWP (40887) is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. The story goes that Ditto is watching TV, sees Squirtle, and transforms to look just like it.

There's quite a lot going on in this set, including alternative screens to change what's on the TV, an opening TV stand to store the accessories, and elements such as a remote control, a DVD/Blu-ray case, and a brick-built bucket of popcorn.

You'll need to add your own SMART Brick from an All-In-One set, which is a bit of a shame, but that extends this GWP even further with the addition of lights and sounds.

And if you want to buy LEGO Pokémon SMART Play All-In-One sets to get your hands on a SMART Brick or two, here are your options:

• LEGO Pokémon SMART Play: Training House with Pikachu (72164) (1 SMART Brick)
• LEGO Pokémon SMART Play: Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle (72167) (2 SMART Bricks)

I'd like to see LEGO SMART Bricks and SMART Chargers sold separately, since it would be nice to buy an extra SMART Brick for every LEGO Pokémon SMART Play Compatible set (plus the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play Compatible sets, too) and be able to have everything bricked-up and ready to interact all at once.

LEGO Pokémon October 2026 sets

Finally, let's look ahead to the October 2026 LEGO Pokémon sets, which bring some much-needed LEGO Pokémon Minifigures to the party:

LEGO Rayquaza went on back-order as soon as it released, so if you want to get LEGO Pokémon Poké Ball (72154) this side of Christmas, it's probably a good idea to pre-order it WELL before its October 1st release date.

This set is awesome and an absolutely essential addition to any LEGO Pokémon display. The Poké Ball itself stands about 22cm high on a simple but cool-looking grassy stand. Alongside it, there's a matching stand with five characters:

• LEGO Minifigure Professor Oak
• LEGO Minifigure Red
• LEGO Minifigure Picnicker
• LEGO Minifigure Pikachu
• LEGO Minifigure Eevee

That's Minifigure-scale Professor Oak, Pikachu AND Eevee in a single set, plus Red and Picnicker. You wait years for a LEGO Pokémon Minifigure, and then five come along at once...

90s kids will also love the Mighty Max/Polly Pocket nostalgia of opening the hinged Poké Ball to reveal two tiny play sets inside:

• Top: Professor Oak's laboratory with library, computers, 3x Minifig-scale Poké Balls and 2x Pokédex tiles
• Bottom: Pikachu vs. Eevee battle scene

I'm really impressed by this set and excited for the Minifigures (especially the Pikachu and Eevee figures, which look PERFECT). October can't come soon enough!

It's a shame LEGO Pokémon Up-Scaled Red Minifigure (40868) doesn't include an actual LEGO Minifigure Red, but that's a small gripe (literally) with an otherwise pretty awesome build.

There's something incredibly satisfying about up-scaled Minifigures. At nearly a foot tall, LEGO Pokémon Up-Scaled Red is an excellent way to add to your LEGO Pokémon bookcase display.

His head, arms, hands and legs are all posable, and the included Poké Ball can be held in either hand. I love Red's determined facial expression, yellow backpack, and the option to display him standing up or sitting down.

And because up-scaled Minifigures are typically built to the same scale, you can pick up our Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure Display Case now and be ready for Red when he arrives this October!

LEGO Pokémon Red Keyring (854332)

If you want extra LEGO Red Minifigures, this keyring is a handy way to get some without having to buy duplicates of the big sets.

It's due to launch on October 1st - the same day as LEGO Poké Ball (72154) - and regardless of whether you're getting the Poké Ball set, this key chain is the perfect life hack to put a few more LEGO Pokémon Trainer Minifigures in your display.

Of course, you could also actually use it to carry your keys - it's about 10cm long including the chain, and since Pokémon is short for 'pocket monsters', it would be weirdly appropriate to have this little guy in your pocket!

Final Thoughts

There's a lot to digest across both drops. The LEGO Pokémon August sets give you a choice of three fantastic display pieces at three different price points, which is pretty standard for a LEGO launch these days.

The October LEGO Pokémon sets take the alternative route: one iconic collectible set, one pocket-sized accessory and one up-scaled Minifigure.

Personally, I'm most excited for the LEGO Pokémon Iconic Trainer Moments Poké Ball (72154) set, it just feels like it captures so much of what makes the show a cult classic, and the FIVE included Minifigures put it way out in front of the rest of the range.
