NEW SpongeBob SquarePants LEGO Sets: Go Back to Bikini Bottom

It's 2026, and there's a new Bikini Bottom LEGO set for SpongeBob SquarePants fans to build and display - and it's a whopper.

LEGO Icons SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom (11386) has just under 1,800 pieces, making it 3x more detailed than previous builds of the pineapple under the sea.

It's joined by LEGO BrickHeadz SpongeBob SquarePants Figure (40858) and if this is all sounding familiar, there's a good reason why.

LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th Anniversary

Is it just me, or is 2026 the anniversary of nearly everything? We've had the 60th anniversary of Star Trek TOS and the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

This summer also marked LEGO SpongeBob SquarePants' 20th anniversary. In 2006, there were three sets to collect:

• LEGO SpongeBob The Krusty Krab (3825)
• LEGO SpongeBob SpongeBob and Plankton's Adventure (3826)
• LEGO SpongeBob Adventures at Bikini Bottom (3827)

Those last two were a brick-built SpongeBob figure (also known as LEGO Build-A-Bob 3826) and a Bikini Bottom diorama - making the new SpongeBob SquarePants LEGO sets in 2026 a bit of an homage to those first releases.

The new LEGO Icons SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom (11386) is by far the most detailed build of SpongeBob's home, and there are a ton of references to characters from the show.

Officially there are three LEGO Minifigures (SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star and Squidward Tentacles) but there's also a Gary the Snail figure and a pencil-wielding DoodleBob to add to the playability.

We LOVE the buildings in this set. SpongeBob's pineapple includes bedroom and living room interiors. Squidward's house has bedroom, bathroom, living room and rooftop lounge. Even Patrick's rock has an interior.

There's a Minifigure-scale Boatmobile build, a Jellyfish Fields scene, a Bubblestand offering bubble-blowing lessons for 25 cents, and the iconic Bikini Bottom 'life preserver' sign.

It's one of those 'Adults Welcome' LEGO sets that the kids will want to play with, and it's a fantastic way to reconnect with your inner child from 20 years ago too.

You know what you're getting with BrickHeadz, and LEGO BrickHeadz SpongeBob SquarePants Figure (40858) delivers it for just over a tenner.

There's not a huge amount to say about this set - it's a brick-built SpongeBob SquarePants at the usual BrickHeadz scale, holding a jellyfish net.

It does feel like the verticality is a bit off. There should be a bit more leg and a bit less head, which is giving SpongeBob a slightly skinny appearance, but the facial expression and outfit are spot-on.

LEGO BrickHeadz always look great on display, and with SpongeBob's bright yellow colour scheme, this set is no exception.

A Brief History of LEGO Bikini Bottom

By our count, there have actually been four reasonably detailed Bikini Bottom LEGO sets over the years, released in 2006, 2009, 2012 and now the new 2026 Bikini Bottom LEGO set.

The first three were all quite evenly matched in terms of piece count and Minifigures, but this new Adults Welcome build raises the bar:

It's really great to see a cult classic character given a new lease of life by LEGO - the show itself is into its 17th season, with two more already commissioned, and many of its early fans are now watching with kids of their own.

Did you have the 2006 SpongeBob SquarePants LEGO sets - and will you be adding the new 2026 sets to your Bikini Bottom display?
